Ask Alle | 10.26.20
Hi all! It’s a fresh week with snow on the ground and 10 degrees in Denver. I’m ok with it because it will be back to 65 by end of this week. In the last ‘Ask Alle,’ I focused in the fashion realm but today opened it up to questions outside of fashion as well. Will plan to do these every so often. You can email any future questions to alle@mytimeandplace.co with ASK ALLE in the subject line.
What do you do for work in Denver?
I’m in between jobs right now but hoping for some good news this week! Send the good vibes my way pleaseee. We moved to Denver April 1st in the dead of the pandemic, when no one was hiring. I picked up a serving job for a few months and got the blog going. Now I’m diving back into my career doing brand strategy & influencer marketing.
Is Denver your forever home?
Who the heck knows! Anything being forever kind of freaks me out, but I’m more recently coming around to planting roots somewhere. We would happily stay here in Colorado. My sister and her boyfriend just moved down the street, so now just have to get the rest of the family out here ;) I love the weather, mountains, and the PEOPLE. Everyone is SO nice and it definitely has a midwestern feel to it (probably because there are so many transplants.)
What do you eat in a day?
I’m always weirded out by this question and that people ask and bloggers do like a whole video on it so how about this…
Here are a few consistencies in my eating habits and recent adjustments I’ve made:
-I really try to only eat when I’m hungry aka with my stomach and not my eyes 😂
-That includes the morning ^ I don’t eat first thing when I wake up until I feel hungry
-Start with a glass of water first thing (before coffee) to get things moving
-A small lunch. When working in an office, I used to order a big salad or sandwich that was realistically a much bigger portion than I needed for lunch and left me feeling lethargic and a few pounds heavier than I am now. So, now I usually just do a piece of avocado toast with some turkey and plantain chips (or something of the sorts) and an afternoon snack like an apple with almond butter. That holds me over until dinner :)
-I’m incredibly lucky to have Tossed and Sauced as my husband!! I rarely cook dinner because he loves to (and is much better anyway!) When he travels or before we lived together, I would make a quinoa bowl, an omelette, or cereal for dinner- no joke.
-I don’t eat gluten or dairy (besides the occasional cheat meal,) but it usually just isn’t worth it.
-DRINKING: I loooooove red wine, but it leaves me feeling like complete ass the next day so I try to limit that. Organic wine is better! On the weekends- Tequila with a La Croix. It’s a glorious thing with a minimal hangover.
-No late night snacking. Just drink lemon water or tea. Unless you eat dinner at 5pm, you’re most likely not actually hungry.
Things to register for your wedding:
Think this needs to be it’s own blog post, but here’s my top 3:
A DYSON MOTHER F*CKING VACUUM. I think there are good knockoff versions these days but if you’re registering, go for the gold. You will thank me. I now actually enjoy vacuuming. We have the Dyson V8 animal (a must if you have pets.)
A Kitchen-Aid Mixer. If you like to bake or plan to ever, it is an amazing piece in the kitchen and really nice to have on occasion.
A Le Creuset dutch oven. Also an expensive piece that’s hard to justify buying for yourself, but life changing in the kitchen. There are many different sizes and colors, but we have the 5 qt. big boy.
How to do a gallery wall-
Could also potentially do a separate blog post on this topic, but here is a trick I used in our current home. This article is very helpful and I trust anything Joanna Gaines says…
I was very indecisive with what frames to buy because I wanted the wall to look nice and not cheap. I almost bought frames from West Elm, but then decided to order an assortment from Target. I love them and don’t think they look cheap at all! Below are the frames I have. I went with an assortment of gold, brown, and black. I ordered about 10-12 frames and first assembled them on my floor. It took some trial and error- I had to order a few more and return a few once I found an arrangement I liked.
I then cut brown kraft paper to the dimension of each frame and taped them to the wall with painters tape. This way I was able to move them around before nailing into the wall. INCREDIBLY HELPFUL!!!
Word to the wise: try and do this project on your own and without your significant other, because it can potentially lead to divorce!!!!
